Flights Resume at Edinburgh Airport Following Substantial Air Traffic Control Outage

A technical fault at the airport's ATC meant all flights could enter or leave the airport.

Air travel have resumed at Scotland's primary international airport after a substantial ATC system failure brought the international hub to a standstill.

All aircraft movements were halted due to an IT issue that was reported at approximately 08:30.

Some passengers reported being stuck in aircraft on the tarmac while the issue persisted.

Flights Resume with Ongoing Delays

Officials announced at 10:40 that services were back online, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "patience and understanding".

That said, considerable delays are likely to continue throughout the day. Services bound for key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been axed, with many others subject to postponements.

A spokesperson had earlier anticipated that a significant number of movements could be disrupted.

"Flyers are asked to check directly with their airline for the current status on their booked journeys," officials reiterated.

Root of the Disruption

The problem was traced to the widespread suspension to an IT issue with its air traffic control provider.

Passengers are still being urged to verify the schedule of their journey before traveling to the airport as residual delays are cleared.
